Gastric Cancer in the Aged Patients


Abstract
An analysis was made of the records of 97 gastric cancer more than 60 years of age, who performed operation at the Department of General Surgery. Chonnam National University. from January 1977 to December 1982.
The results were as follows;
1) The ratio of male to female was 2.5 : 1.
2) The duration of symptoms was within 3 months in 57.5%.
3) The most frequent symptom was epigastric fullness and indigestion.
4) The tumors were located in the antrum and pylorus in 58.8%.
5) All cases were adenoca.rcinoma, and the tumors were papillary and tubular in 56.1% of cases. All histopathologica.l nodal involvement was 58.1%.
6) Resectability was 80.4% and curative resection was performed in 42.3% of cases.
7) Of 97 cases, 74 were followed. Follow up data revealed 5 year survival of 20.0%.
